CPF Bulletin (09/06/08) Dear colleagues, 1. First of all apologies for the delay in sending out this bulletin. The main reason is that I have been waiting for IPF confirmation of the final drug test results from our Championships last December. I regret to say that there were six positives, all for steroids except Beaton where it was marijuana:
These lifters have been suspended in accordance with IPF rules and therefore are disqualified from the December 2007 Commonwealth Championships. The results including team positions will be amended accordingly and disqualified lifters who won medals will be asked to return them. It very disappointing to see so many positives. I hope all countries will take more rigorous steps to eradicate the use of banned performance enhancing substances amongst their membership. A very important element in this is to have an effective Out-of-Competition testing programme and all IPF members are supposed to have this anyway. If this level of offending is not reduced significantly it will seriously damage our chances of gaining acceptance into the Commonwealth Games. 2. On a brighter note I am pleased to confirm that, subject to contract, the 2009 Commonwealth Championships will be held 9th to 13th December 2009 in Guwahati, India. Guwahati is the capital of Assam State and the venue will be in the Karamveer Naveen Chandra Bordloi Indoor Hall. More details will be provided in due course, but I anticipate the format will be similar to Christchurch’s. 3. AFFILIATION – All countries are asked to note that the following have paid their fees for this year and are therefore able to claim Commonwealth Records;
Fees are outstanding for India, Fiji, Samoa, Trinidad & Tobago, Papua New Guinea and Nigeria. However, Nigeria have committed to making payment at the next international competition they attend. The others are requested to submit payment to me, as soon as possible. The 2008 Affiliation form is attached again for your assistance. 4. New Members – Our President Peter Fiore is contacting all Commonwealth countries that have powerlifters to encourage them to join the CPF and we look forward to welcoming many more to the fold. 5. Finishing on high note, many of you will already know that Jim Clifford has won the Fiji FASANOC National Coach of the Year award. A very well deserved honour for someone who works tirelessly for Powerlifting and other sports in the region. Many congratulations Jim from the CPF. If any one has any issues or problems please let my self or Peter Fiore know. Regards, Richard Parker
